We are two Nordic-trained registered nurses with backgrounds in global health, clinical practice, and international health professions education. Through our clinical and field-based work in East Africa, and our own experiences of international clinical placements as students, healthcare professionals, and clinical placement coordinators, we recognised both the value of these experiences and the need for clear learning objectives, appropriate supervision, patient safety, and respectful collaboration with local partners. This led us to establish ECHOES as a structured, responsible, and learning-outcome-driven framework for international clinical learning.
